AI Fatigue? Yea I know.

Craving pre-2022 variety over endless model talk

I don't know how to start this off really haha. Though to be fair, everyone is talking about AI ranging from building projects with AI, news about AI, dev.to articles about AI, and so on.

Though the more I see articles talking about AI, the more I felt like it's no longer interesting anymore. There is so much articles that is related to AI (ignore the part where I posted about making a portfolio in relations to AI) to the point where I want something...different.

I remember having discussions with various people on dev.to where back then there use to be articles that were very interesting such as CSS Tips, Resources every developer should know, etc. I can tell it was interesting back then because I visit that time. How? (I just find articles before 2022). There were so much variety of articles to look into and it gives the reader a lot of choices.

Today, most of the time I see articles talking about:

  • Topics in MCP
  • An app someone use AI to build it
  • Tokens
  • Models
  • Machine Learning

This is based on my experience by simply looking at the front page. Don't get me wrong, MCP is important and so is someone building an app using AI in some sense and talking about their process. The problem is that almost everyone is doing it to the point where it's hard to find an article that stands out from the rest.

It also gets difficult for people, like me, to find articles that are easy to understand because in most cases, articles talking about AI tend to be complex.

Do I mention "AI" in my articles, yes. I talk about AI and I fit into this category. However, I try not to talk about AI most of the time and focus on other aspects. In other words, not making AI the main focus.

For instance, on my last article, I talked about the reasons of creating a portfolio in the age of AI. I mainly talk about how you can structure your portfolio and use AI as a tool. The main highlight is talking about making your portfolio in the age of AI and how it's still relevant in this market.

Before you ask, yes, it gave me fatigue even reading my own article on it. However, this is expected.

AI is unavoidable

If you are lucky enough, you can find an article that talks about anything not related to AI at all. However, there will always be some mention of AI whenever you read an article on dev.to or in any social media platform.

AI has becoming a discussion that seems unavoidable because AI plays a critical role whenever we are developing an app or how some companies using AI. AI is rapidly growing in a rate where it is hard to catch up for not only us developers, but for the general public as well. There are still some discussions about AI art and the legality of it to this day as it becomes much harder to distinguish.

It's everywhere. There is no escape from it and I don't know if it's even possible to escape from this fatigue. My fear is if we all know AI and if we remove AI from the equation from our lives, what do we truly know?

The question is never "how we differentiate topics between AI and non-AI?". we should all be asking: "What will we expect content to look like beyond AI?"

What's your Experience?

I would love to hear from you if you are experiencing this in the comments. If there is a solution to this, feel free to share this as well. Take care :D

I think we all feel it one way or another. One time I was just browsing the web and I watched this YT video about how a user infamously named "Chick Bongo" trolls AI HR interviewers with nonsense terminology hahaha (I died laughing btw 🤣).

But on the bright side, I know humans will still find a way to fight this fatigue. I mean, Chick Bongo is already doing his part. He is already fighting nonsense with more nonsense. Just imagine how confused the manager is after getting an AI summary from that interview.

Ah yes, I have seen those videos, especially those that tried to gaslight the AI Interviewer lol.

It's not just on the internet though, it's real life too. I have seen restaurants use AI on their menu covers and their AD. It's been really annoying and I feel like I don't trust anyone that claimed they made this WITHOUT AI.

It's something I notice on DEV, though I don't think it's as bad as it was early 2026. I think we became more aware. Besides, public opinion on AI always have been negative since it's been taking all the RAM, a lot of Datacenters, etc.

Thanks Elmar!

I hate those AI food pics. That's not what your food looks like, shows us what you actually serve. cause the ai food is not appetizing.

AI is definitely here to stay, and whatever comes beyond it down the road will likely just be the next wave of advanced tech rather than an escape. It is definitely going to keep dominating our feeds for a while. What makes it worse is the AI slop content where everything is either too complex to even read to understand, or doesn't make much sense...

My take is that the fatigue comes from AI being treated as the main character in every single article. Eventually, I am hoping the hype cools down to the point where AI stops being the headline and just becomes a quiet, boring tool in the toolbox, letting us get back to sharing classic web dev stories and practical tips without making a whole production out of it.

I hope so too Maame! Having AI as the main spotlight takes away the joy for me because I want to see other aspects that is not heavily AI. Thanks for stopping by :)

I am feeling burned out from AI, and honestly, it's causing me to lose steam. Im exploring other avenues along side web development now. Although closely related.

Hey Anna. Speaking of web development, have you gotten into Creative Coding? It's a fun thing to explore in that topic :)

Otherwise, yea too much AI nowadays...

What exactly do you mean by creative coding?

Like creating art via coding basically (the best way I can describe it). The library I used is p5.js (p5js.org/)

It's really easy to use! You can be creative on the art you want to make in coding such as having animations for sounds, color changer when it bounces, etc. I think you will have fun with this!!

Gotcha something cool, I think I'll be busy doing creative codding

  1. I'll design my portfolio
  2. Make backgrounds for my chat app
  3. Learn more JavaScript
  4. Try to make a ram eating art
  5. Then add it to my experience level

Oooo a new rabbit hole. 😂 I was going to learn THREE.js but that got put on the backburner when I started working full time and going to school. Perhaps it will be time to revisit that again soon. I think I've seen this before. Thanks for sharing!

I relate to this a lot. 😸
I don’t think using AI should be mandatory just because it’s everywhere, but I do think it can be incredibly useful when it helps accelerate something you already want to do.

The important question for me is

"what do you actually want to do with AI?"

If there’s no answer to that, it becomes very easy to just accept suggestion after suggestion until you’re basically pressing Enter for the machine. And once even that feels annoying, you start asking a much bigger question "what is the human actually here for?"

That’s why I think this is starting to become almost philosophical. Maybe the foundation of the AI era is not learning how to use AI, but figuring out what gives your own life and work meaning.

Then AI becomes something we coexist with in service of that meaning, rather than something that decides the direction for us.

In that sense, maybe living alongside AI is both the privilege of this era and the beginning of how people will live in the next one. 😸

Hey nyaomaru!

It's the best way to describe where we are currently at right now! :)

I also think it shouldn't be a mandatory thing. Though in all fairness, AI developments is still increasing and more hype is coming through (such as Jev recently).

I guess we have to wait and see where this goes I guess. Thanks for stopping by :D

I hear you! Very timely post 🥰

I don't feel fatigue from AI. I feel fatigued when I see everyone talking about AI like it's the end of everything. It most certainly is not.

That's why I just wrote this article:

I'll continue writing this series until the message syncs in 🥰

Yea there is a lot of talks about the "end of the world" because of AI. I don't think it's the end of everything, but I can see where people are coming from.

Will take a look at your article when I have time :)

Thanks Fayaz!

We already have so many things that can end the world. AI, as it is now, doesn't have the capacity to end anything. It's just a massive set of binary tensor data, nothing more.

The problem is, some people are trying to replace human thinking and decision making using that binary tensor data for everything. If anything, that irresponsible use of AI may "end the world", not AI itself.

We MUST put strong regulation against the use of AI in everything. Human accountability must be mandated, by law, if we want to avoid such unfortunate situations.

Irresponsible use of AI models for everything is like using a Math.random function with a low probability value on all nuclear detonators. They'll not explode most of the times, but when they do, bye bye humanity. 🤪

Hopefully, those regulations will come, but based on how fast developments are, it's almost impossible. Today, you can even reverse engineer anything now... Someone literally grabbed adobe and reverse engineer it with Claude to make a replica of it (verbatim almost).

Fayaz • • Edited

Reverse engineering from binary files existed forever. We call it decompilers.

What Claude probably did was to give it a better function and variable names, along with some structural changes to make the decompiled code more readable. That is order of magnitude easier thing to do than developing an app from a spec (which frontier models could already do).

The decompiled thing is an over hype. The real challenge is maintaining the entire software ecosystem.

Would you spend $5000 for Opus 5.5 for your own copy of photoshop, or just buy a $300/yr subscription?

🥰

FrancisTRᴅᴇᴠ •

Why not free lol

But I see what you mean. Unless they are using a local model and have the hardware to do so, idk. Though I can understand no one is going to spend 5K and in hope they maintain it. Though, there is already open source for photoshop already due to this, so might as well contribute. That will depend on its maintainability and how long it can last.

LOL, yeah every software being free would be nice, but then again, we'd become jobless too, so what would we do with free software? 🤣

Joke apart, AI generated code, even with Opus 5.5, isn't really that good in a Software Engineering point of view. Which means, they are very hard to maintain and even harder to contribute to. Unless the only thing we contribute is our LLM credits 🤣 🥰

Your point about variety makes sense. I’d like to see more small debugging stories: the original symptom, the wrong assumption, and the test that finally exposed it. Those stay useful even when the tools mentioned in them are no longer fashionable.

Yeah, you are right, content has been changed and shifted towards AI more.
Today, I read one another article which I found really useful, because I am building a system monitoring tui in Go and there was specific info about macOS that other OS don't support the same feature and I didn't have a clue about it which I learned by just reading that article. I want to see more different kind of topics that I can get hints and learn more about different things. I really like your articles, because reading them feels really good because of the tone of writing.

BTW, the article that I mentioned is this: Singature in macOS

Honestly, this is a refreshing perspective! 👏 Technology evolves, but the beauty of the developer community lies in the diversity of ideas—from clever CSS tricks and practical tutorials to creative experiments and real-world problem-solving. AI should expand our curiosity, not narrow the conversations we have. 🚀 Perhaps the real question isn’t what AI will change, but what we’ll continue creating beyond it. What non-AI topic would you love to see more of on DEV.to? 💡

Totally. Other than the occasional rant against the clankers, I try to avoid AI in my posts and focus on the things that made the field fun or interesting or on the things I wish someone would explain.

That said I’m going to be on a panel soon with the topic “Hot Takes on AI” so I can only avoid it so much… 🙃

But the hype pressure is so strong, it set off my BS detector a long while back and I admit, I’m struggling with the future of the craft right now

Hey Ben! Absolutely, the hype is strong in this one.

The main thing I am trying to do with future posts is not making AI the spotlight. Instead, thinking about existing things we already know and how that changed. I think it's going to be more useful than having an article decided to only AI and knowing that we saw this before.

Thanks Ben and gl on the topic "Hot Takes on AI" :)
