Apple: First MacBook Pro with touchscreen introduced

Apple has launched its first touch-enabled MacBook Pro featuring a PROLED XDR Display.

The new hardware introduces native touch support for desktop workflows, enabling direct navigation, 3D model interaction, and smoother execution of mobile apps on macOS.

What you can do with the touchscreen

PCMag's hardware expert Joe Osborne tested the new display and found it to be exceptionally fast and responsive. The addition of touch allows users to:

  • They sign documents.
  • They are planning.
  • They scroll through pages without using the trackpad.
  • They enlarge or reduce the image with finger movements (pinch to zoom).
  • They interact with 3D models and applications like Google Earth or Blender.

The screen also makes it easy to use apps from iPhone and iPad, as well as operate the phone via the iPhone Mirroring function directly from the computer.

Technical limitations and everyday use

Despite the new features, there are some limitations you should be aware of:

  • No Apple Pencil: The MacBook Pro does not support the use of the Apple Pencil.
  • Fixed slope: The screen cannot open completely flat, remaining at the tilt of a classic laptop.
  • Cleanliness: Contact with fingers leaves fingerprints, so the screen will need more frequent cleaning.

The new model is equipped with a PROLED XDR technology display.
