Leaked information suggests that Apple is considering the removal of the iPhone Action Button by the second half of 2027.
The proposed hardware shift involves moving the button's customizable functionality into the existing Camera Control interface introduced in the iPhone 16.
This potential update would consolidate interaction layers on the device, replacing the current long-press Action Button mechanism.
This button first appeared on the iPhone 15 Pro in 2023, replacing the classic mute switch. Users can configure it to perform various actions with a long press.
What do the leaks show?
According to information shared by a user on the Chinese social network Weibo, the company plans to remove the button on new models towards the end of 2027.
In its place, Apple is expected to leverage the camera control button that first appeared in 2024 on the right side of the devices. According to reports, a long press on that button will take over the functions that the shortcut key has done so far.
