Google has taken direct control of a data center project in Wyoming, acquiring the site from Crusoe.
The shift follows concerns regarding the original project's management and development timelines.
This move is part of Google's $17 billion investment plan for the region.
We look at the scale of physical infrastructure management for major cloud providers and how companies are recalibrating their data center growth strategies amid shifting operational requirements.
The investment and the project in Wyoming
The project began last year, with Crusoe partnering with infrastructure company Tallgrass to develop it. After taking on the project, Google announced a $17 billion investment plan for the site.
The ongoing collaboration
Despite the change in management of the Wyoming project, the business relationship between the two companies remains active. Crusoe continues to build another data center for Google near Amarillo, Texas.
Crusoe, which started as a natural gas-fired cryptocurrency mining business, currently manages other large infrastructure projects in the technology industry, including a facility for Oracle and OpenAI in Abilene, Texas, as well as a large campus for Microsoft.
