Googlebooks: Google's new laptops with Android 17

The new Googlebooks arrive running a custom variant of Android 17, featuring deep system-level integration with Gemini AI.

Built on Intel Core Ultra 5 or Snapdragon X Elite hardware, these devices support up to 120Hz OLED displays.

Developers should note that the platform environment is restricted exclusively to Android applications.

Screens and Design

In terms of display, the Googlebooks offer features that may pique interest, as some models feature OLED panels and the ability to refresh up to 120Hz for smoother motion. In contrast, the MacBooks feature Liquid Retina displays with a fixed refresh rate of 60Hz. In terms of charging, the MacBook Air uses the MagSafe magnetic charger, while the Googlebooks charge via the USB-C port.

Performance and Software

The internals of the devices are based on different philosophies. MacBooks run on Apple's M-series processors, while Googlebooks are equipped with Intel Core Ultra 5 or Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processors. The most significant limitation of Googlebooks is that they can only run applications intended for Android. This makes MacBooks more versatile for those looking for tools for traditional computing.

The presence of Gemini

Google has fully integrated its own artificial intelligence system, Gemini, into the entire Googlebooks environment. This allows users to access intelligent features directly from within their computer software.

Prices and Options

Cost is a key factor in choosing a computer. Googlebooks start at $899,99. Apple, on the other hand, has the MacBook Neo, which is a more affordable proposition and starts at $699, while the MacBook Air starts at $1.299. The differences in these prices reflect the different technologies and features offered by each series.
