The Linux Mint team's October 2026 update details features in development for Linux Mint 27 'Adrien', including restored hibernation support, Nemo file manager previews, the Superlight system monitor, Velocitty terminal, and Unfold archive manager.
The return of hibernation
One of the biggest changes is in power management. Linux Mint is set to bring back the hibernation feature, which was disabled by default because Ubuntu didn't support it. Unlike a simple sleep, hibernation saves your current work to the hard drive and completely shuts down the computer, saving battery life.
To make the setup easier, the developers have added a new sleep options page to the system management tool. In addition to hibernation, hybrid sleep and automatic hibernation after a certain time are supported.
New applications and tools
All new features are still under development for the upcoming release.
Superlight is a new PC health monitoring app. It offers graphs for CPU, memory, graphics card, and storage usage, as well as temperature, fan speed, and battery information. It also includes storage analysis that shows data from games and apps.
