Apple announced the new iPad mini featuring an OLED display, A20 Pro chip, and IP67 water and dust resistance.
Starting at $699 with 128GB of storage, preorders open October 28.
The new screen and slimmer design
The new small tablet features an 8,5-inch OLED display, slightly larger than the previous 8,3-inch model. Apple managed to keep the overall size of the device the same by reducing the bezels around the screen by 24%. The new display offers twice the brightness, reaching 1.200 nits.
In terms of design, the device is thinner and lighter. Its thickness has been reduced from 0,3 to 0,21 inches, while the weight has dropped to 0,56 pounds for the Wi-Fi model and 0,58 pounds for the cellular version, down from 0,65 pounds before. In addition, the tablet is water and dust resistant with an IP67 certification.
Greater speed and performance
Inside, Apple has replaced the A17 processor with the A20 Pro. The CPU offers up to 60% faster performance, graphics are up to 2,7x faster, and AI tasks see a speed boost of up to 4,5x.
