South Korea: Personal information of 38.490 Daishin customers exposed

A wave of cyberattacks targets South Korean financial institutions, including Daishin Securities, Mirae Asset Global Investments, and Bithumb.

Daishin confirmed the exposure of customer data for 38,490 users, while investigations continue into broader regional trends connected to recent financial sector incidents.

Daishin said the data exposed included names, email addresses and mobile phone numbers. The company has notified affected customers and is cooperating with authorities in the investigation. It also said it will compensate for any damages, as required by law.

Mirae Asset Global Investments and Bithumb reported their incidents on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The new incidents came about a month after a previous wave of attacks on financial institutions in the country. Authorities are still investigating what triggered the latest attacks.

Researchers have linked the September wave to a suspected hacker reportedly based in China. According to the researchers, he used Artex, an artificial intelligence tool for security testing.
