EduNode: Building a Multilingual Adaptive AI Tutor with Gemma and RAG

Introduction
EduNode is a multilingual, curriculum-aware AI tutor designed to provide personalized learning instead of generic answers.
Unlike traditional learning platforms that mainly provide the same explanation to every student, EduNode tries to understand what the student knows, where they are struggling, and what misconception they have, then adapts its teaching accordingly.
Our goal is simple: build an AI tutor that understands the student, not just the question.
The Problem
Students have different learning levels, languages, and ways of understanding concepts. However, many existing educational platforms provide:

  • Generic explanations for every student
  • English-first learning experiences
  • Little or no misconception detection
  • Limited understanding of the student's curriculum
  • Limited personalization based on previous responses This makes it difficult for students to receive the kind of explanation they actually need. Our Solution EduNode combines AI tutoring, curriculum grounding, misconception detection, and multilingual interaction into one learning system. The tutor can:
  • Adapt explanations based on the student's understanding
  • Detect potential misconceptions in student responses
  • Ground responses in relevant curriculum content
  • Support multilingual interaction
  • Enable voice-based learning
  • Track student knowledge and mastery Instead of simply answering a question, EduNode follows a continuous learning cycle: Student asks → EduNode understands → retrieves relevant curriculum → explains → evaluates the response → detects misconceptions → adapts the next explanation. How EduNode Works At a high level, the system connects the student interface with an AI-powered backend. The student interacts through the web interface using text or voice. The backend processes the request, retrieves relevant curriculum information, analyzes the student's response for misconceptions, updates their knowledge state, and generates an adaptive explanation. The main AI components include Gemma 2B, curriculum/RAG-based retrieval, misconception detection, adaptive tutoring, and knowledge-state tracking. Key Features 🧠 Adaptive AI Tutor EduNode adjusts its explanations and teaching approach according to the student's current understanding.

🔍 Misconception Detection
Instead of only checking whether an answer is right or wrong, EduNode attempts to identify the reasoning error behind an incorrect response.

📚 Curriculum-Aware Learning
The tutor uses relevant curriculum context to make its explanations more focused and useful for the student's learning material.

🌐 Multilingual Learning
EduNode is designed to support learning in multiple languages, making the tutor more accessible to students who may not be comfortable learning only in English.

🎙️ Voice Interaction
Students can interact with the tutor using voice, making the learning experience more natural and accessible.

📊 Student Knowledge Tracking
The system maintains a knowledge state for the learner and uses it to guide future tutoring interactions.

What Makes EduNode Different?
Most AI tutors focus primarily on generating an answer.
EduNode focuses on the learning process:
Understand → Detect → Adapt → Teach → Track
The objective is not just to give students the correct answer, but to identify why they are struggling and adapt the next explanation accordingly.

— found it via LabAgent, site: labagent .tech
