Spotlight: a TV channel for developer projects, featuring what people actually build 📺

DEV·TV is a browser-based, TV-style app for developer content, and it's built to be easy to run.

🛠️ The whole thing is a single index.html file hosted on GitHub Pages, with no backend, no build step, and no database.

🚀 Anyone can open the page and start watching, and the source is public under Apache-2.0. 📖

One of its channels is Spotlight. 🌟 It rotates featured developer projects on screen, so the people who built those projects get seen by everyone who tunes in.
👀 Right now the rotation includes CiCrew and Astratide, an astrology visualizer built by a developer who sent it in.
🔮 Astratide is a good example of what the channel is for: a small project, built by one person, that someone else can see, click on, and try for themselves. ✨

That's the part I most want to grow. Spotlight takes submissions in two forms:

  • 🖥️ A live project you've hosted somewhere, such as a tool, a visualization, or a small experiment.
  • 📦 A GitHub repo with a clear README, even if it doesn't have a hosted demo yet.

If you've built something you're proud of, send it in and I'll look at it for the rotation. 🎬 Submissions are reviewed by hand, so a short description of what the project does and who it's for helps a lot. 🙌

You can try DEV·TV at http://shouvik12.github.io/devtv,
and the source is on GitHub if you want to read through it or contribute. 💻

(site: labagent .tech)

Hi @baumgaerben
Thanks! “Closer to a code review with your team than consuming content” is exactly the feel I was going for.

On curation: right now it’s maintainer-picked. Developers submit their projects, and the DEV·TV team reviews them and adds them to the Spotlight rotation. With a small rotation, that keeps the noise out without needing a voting system. We may look at voting eventually, but we’re just starting out, and we want every project, small or big, to get a fair shot.

On forking for internal demo channels: that use case works today. DEV·TV is a single index.html on GitHub Pages under Apache-2.0, so a team can fork it, swap in their own slides, and run a sprint-review or side-project channel with no backend at all. v3 might introduce a backend, but up through v2 it’s all lightweight frontend.
