So, back on the first day of 11th grade, I walked in with high hopes, new faces around, and big plans. But literally within the first week, things got super weird.
Out of nowhere, everyone started calling me "Divyanshi."
Turns out, there was a girl named Divyanshi in 11th grade the year before who ended up failing. So, everyone thought it’d be hilarious to use her name as a running joke on me.
To top it off, my class teacher completely pre-judged me and randomly tagged me as "The Lazy Girl." Between my classmates constantly messing with me and the teacher's unnecessary taunts, I was honestly so over it and hated even going to class.
Luckily, my best friend Siya had my back the whole time. She’d just tell me, "Divya, seriously, just block them out. I know how smart and hardworking you are. Focus on your stuff and let your marks do the talking." Having her in my corner gave me the push I needed.
I think Elmar and @francistrdev are best friends
I decided I wasn't gonna waste energy arguing. I was just gonna let my results hit them. I started grinding, pulling late nights, getting my concepts crystal clear, and just putting in the work.
Fast forward to report card day. The class teacher was handing them out, and when she got to my score, her face completely changed. She called me up to the front, smiling, and said, "Well done! Excellent performance, Divya!"
The whole room went dead silent. The same teacher who kept calling me 'The Lazy Girl' was literally praising me in front of everyone.
I just looked at her and quietly said—
"Thank you, Ma'am... but Ma'am, my name is Divyanshi."

This hits hard! Love that quiet, classy comeback🤣

I'm done giving lectures—now I need your advice. I've got a question.
Go ahead, what’s your question?🤔
I’m really, really sorry for the late reply 😅 I just had one little question… do you use Discord?
Yep, I use Discord. Registered last week and joined the server run by the two 12-year-old founders 🤣 My account is tied to my Gmail.
🤔Are you really introvert?!
For real! Strictly text-only. No voice or video at all 🤣
Why so ?🤣
Voice/video makes me anxious. Text communication feels safer and easier for an introvert 😂
So how do you even talk to people around you? How do you manage at the company? 🤣 Lol
I’m a different person at work, haha! I can talk a lot once I get familiar with someone, it just takes time 😂
I don’t know if I’m laughing in the text, but I’m actually laughing so much in real life too 🤣 Sorry, I’m seriously laughing way too much. Same, I’m exactly like this too. Talking to someone feels so difficult—always worrying about what they’ll think, and then an even bigger fear… what if something goes wrong? 🙂
I totally understand that feeling. Overthinking every word while talking face-to-face is exhausting. It’s such a relief chatting through text 😂
Haha, should I join Discord too? 🤣🤔
Go for it! The only downside of this Discord server is that there’s no built-in real-time AI translation.🤣
Do people in China usually speak English in their daily lives? :D
Not really. Most of us speak Chinese in daily life. English is mainly learned as a foreign language for study or work 😅
I understand 😅 Maybe you can read and write English, but speaking is a little difficult for you. My English is also not perfect I wrote this myself, no AI.
You’re already doing really well! I usually run your comments and replies through AI translation. Even though I can roughly understand them, I need AI to get more precise meaning.
No problem, it is like this because in China there are only Chinese people, so you all understand each other. In our country, there are 22 languages, so learning every language is not possible, which is why we learn English. Where I live, people speak Telugu, while my language is Hindi/Sanskrit, so I have to speak English here. But in my neighborhood, everyone speaks Telugu, so I don't understand anything. Life is frustrating.
That does sound frustrating. In China, besides official Mandarin, we also have many local dialects with distinct styles. Fortunately, we share the same writing system. Even if we can’t fully understand each other’s spoken dialect, the written characters are identical, so communication still works. We have Qin Shi Huang to thank for this. He unified China, standardizing writing(书同文) and measurement across the land(车同轨).
Our languages...😭😭
🤣🤣🤣
Haha, but even though I don't understand my neighbor's language, I know them better than the people who do speak it. Language really doesn't matter.
I totally agree. Heart-to-heart connection matters more than spoken language😆
I’d love to join your Discord server too!😀
I think steady effort can be one of the strongest ways to overcome being judged by others.
In the end, what matters is knowing who you want to become and continuing toward it without letting other people define you.
You didn’t waste your energy arguing, you just kept working and let the results speak for themselves.
I really admire the strength it took to turn that situation around. Well done! 😸🔥
Thanks ❤️ Your words really mean a lot to me. By the way, I really love your articles too! Where do you get so much creativity from? You always come up with something new and beautiful. 😸🔥
Thanks for the kind words! 😸
My secret source of creativity is probably the shoyu ramen I eat every Sunday 🍜🔥
Everyone's celebrating the punchline, and fairly so, but the sharper thing is what you actually corrected.
Two things got taken off you that year. Your name, swapped for a failed student's. And your character, swapped for lazy. The teacher's praise addressed the second one. You declined to accept the correction on the wrong one.
You didn't want to be called hardworking. You wanted to be called Divyanshi.
You've been posting here as The Lazy Girl the whole time. That's her line. You took the insult, made it your name. That's a much longer game than the report card.
Also, Siya deserves more than one paragraph. Everyone remembers the teacher. Very few people get the friend who says "let your marks do the talking" at exactly the right moment.
Maybe that’s why your words mean so much to me, because you didn’t just look at the whole thing as a funny punchline. You understood what was actually behind it, and honestly, I don’t think I had ever put those feelings into words myself.
And now, “The Lazy Girl” doesn’t feel like an insult to me anymore. In fact, I’ve grown quite attached to the name. It carries so many memories, and somewhere along the way, it became a part of my journey rather than something I wanted to hide. I think that’s what makes the name special to me now—the meaning behind it changed with time.
I also really loved what you said about Siya. Some people may not have the biggest part in a story, but the few words they say at exactly the right moment can stay with you for a very long time. “Let your marks do the talking” was one of those moments for me.
Thank you for looking beyond the obvious part of the story and noticing the little things that actually meant something. I genuinely appreciate that!! :D
She handed you a name meant to make you smaller, and you've spent years filling it with amazing things.
Thank you for writing it. 😊
❤️
A story behind every name.
Dekisugi ko Nobita samajh liya aur unki ummeedon par paani pher diya. 😁
Bas bas, itni tareef mat kijiye… main khud ko Dekisugi samajhne lag jaungi 😸
😄
Children can be mean, and teachers can be harsh & judgemental.
Nice comeback 😊✨✨
Thanks for reading ❤️
It was a pleasure 😊
Having even one person like Siya in your corner can make such a difference, Divya. Her advice was simple, but sometimes that's exactly what we need to hear. And that ending was perfectly timed! 😊
So true! Having Siya in my corner meant the world to me, and her advice was just what I needed to hear. Thanks for reading shubhra!! :D
Divya, I can imagine how annoying that must have been, especially when even your teacher had already decided what kind of person you were. But I loved how you just focused on yourself and let your results speak for you. And that ending 😄
That ending 😀 You really let the results speak for you.
Haha the punch line is brilliant!!
Lol
Plot twist: Divyanshi didn’t pass the 11th grade.
The 11th grade passed the Divyanshi test. 😂
That last line was cold. Well played. 👏
Haha 😆
