For anyone excited, Dwarven Stronghold's sim loop is nearing completion and the procedural rendering engine is working!
Still alot of wiring to do (almost 10k modules for the sim-render) but it's getting there... It just took 10 million lines of Rust, but it's finally taking shape.
So whose excited?
If you are, lemme know, so once I actually get it at a playable state, you can test it for me (yes, be my guinea pig). Likely gunna be in a worse state than Minecraft's Alpha, but hey, that just means it can only improve!
Insane to think that a simple game takes longer than RustC to compile... But I guess that's to be expected for building it in Rust, compile slow, but it's tiny and mighty.

Looks insane. Hope I can play it though on my potato device 😢
I was asking the same question (proof) 🥲
Yeah 🙃. What are the specs on your end? Like, I don't even use my device for gaming. Not sure if it will be up to the task. Would love to see a gameplay video though.
I don't even have a GPU lol
Lol but have ryzen 7 processor right 🤣 ?
7730 U lol
Even if U series people will just look your ryzen 7 name lol name is enough
Yeah. My friends are like "Oh! Intel i5 wow!" while I had intel i5 4th gen 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah lol me with i3 12th gen brush I can't even flex name uhh
Also redirect this chat to apic v2 post
pls
Where is apic v2 post?
At least you have 12th gen but people don't know what that means so you can't flex 🙂

Yup, first time today I'm using mobile for Dev.to
Ok...
Hahahaha, the spec war in the comment section 🤣 Hey, atleast you have 8 cores and 16 threads, that's more threads than any of my systems... I5 14400f, ryzen 5500, core 5 210h, i7 10510u, none have 16 threads... So atleast you can flex that 😁 I'll look into option to switch the sdf calculations to cpu, that should boost performance for you on it.
Bro please stop I'm now burned fully after listening you guys specs
Thank you @unitbuilds ! Ok @akhourianmolkumar no more specs.
AI is currently working on the debug overlay for DS, at 800x600 (baby window for screenshot analysis cheaply), it's hitting around 300 fps on my cow scene (cow walking, with a lake and trees), so that's atleast a good sign... The real question is what happens when you have 100+ dwarves and physics...
I remember you saying that your cows are like boxes or something in one of your comments... 🤔 Is it like Minecraft? The screenshot also looks like minecraft.
Yeah otherwise I will be burned fully lol 😆 😅
Not quite, it's SDF, so it's smooth, but boxy, because the initial formula for the cow had it look like a fridge with legs and a head and I kinda liked it, so I decided to leave it like that.
Little Teaser
That looks insane i was thinking about a 2d game lol 😭 That looks really good i hope my laptop could run it...
I hope so too. It's procedural and uses SDF ray tracing, so it's 50:50, on the demo scene for the renderer (not the tunnel, outside, with water, trees, clouds and a cow walking), I was hitting 300 fps on my RX 9060xt, but at tiny window resolution. So I'm not even sure if I'll be able to run it...
That being said, I did design it to be separate rendering from sim, specifically so the game can 'run' smoothly on a potato, just the rendering end that needs optimization to make it work better. Idk, if performance is crap, I'll probably do compiled shaders and assets at launch, so no more ray-traced rendering, but should 10x rendering performance. All depends on how well it works.
I am using iGPU will it work?
Probably? No clue yet, still alot of work to do till I can get proper performance metrics for a full-sim run
