A moving company lives and dies by the quote request. Someone is stressed, boxes are half packed, and they are comparing four or five movers in one evening. The site that makes asking for a price easy usually wins the job.
So the budget question is not "how cheap can the site be" but "what do I pay for so quote requests actually arrive."
The short answer
In the US, a moving company site typically costs about $2,500 to $10,000 with a freelancer or small studio. Agencies often charge 1.5 to 2.5 times more for the same scope. These are general market ranges, not a price list.
What moves the price
Moving sites are not priced by page count the way a brochure site is. Four things matter more:
- The quote tool. A contact form is quick. A multi-step quote form with lead routing is a real build. A calculator based on inventory and distance is bigger still.
- Lead routing and follow-up. A request that sits unread for six hours is probably gone. Routing to a phone, CRM or shared inbox, plus an instant auto-reply, is worth paying for.
- Location coverage. One metro area needs a handful of pages. Several branches plus long-distance routes need many more, and each needs real content.
- Who builds it. Freelancer, studio and builder platform give very different numbers.
Cost by tier
| Tier | What you get | Typical range |
|---|---|---|
| Lead-generation | 5 to 8 pages, contact form, click-to-call, reviews | $2,500 to $4,000 |
| Quote-tool | Multi-step form, auto-reply, lead routing, 6 to 12 location pages | $4,500 to $7,500 |
| Full custom | Calculator, CRM hand-off, commercial section, deeper analytics | $8,000 to $12,000 and up |
Quote form or calculator?
For most local movers, a multi-step form is the best value. It gathers move date, addresses, home size and special items, and each screen asks only one or two things, so it feels quick. A calculator makes sense when volume is high and your pricing rules are clear enough to encode.
Whichever you pick, send an immediate confirmation by email or text that says when someone will call.
Location pages that work
Do not copy one page and swap the city name. Mention the neighborhoods you serve, common building and parking challenges, and a couple of recent jobs in the area. Start with the three to six areas that bring the most work and add more only when you can say something genuine about each.
Running costs
Plan for roughly $50 to $300 a month across hosting, maintenance and any CRM or lead tool.
Questions to ask before signing
- What happens when someone submits the quote form, and who gets notified?
- Is the quote tool included or an add-on?
- Who owns the hosting and domain accounts?
- What is covered after launch, and for how long?
- If we part ways, do I get full access and a backup?
FAQ
Do I need a moving cost calculator?
Not always. A well-designed multi-step form covers most local movers at lower cost.
Freelancer or agency?
For a single-location mover with a clear scope, a vetted freelancer usually offers better value. Agencies suit multi-branch companies.
How long does the build take?
Three to five weeks for a lead-generation site, six to eight for a custom quote tool with many location pages.
What platform fits best?
WordPress handles custom quote forms and many location pages without heavy limits.
