KDE previewed upcoming Plasma 6.9 features ahead of its late February 2027 release, detailing improvements to KWin's Wayland PiP support, multi-monitor window memory, XWayland permission controls, and browser integration updates.
New features for video windows and multiple monitors
The window manager has completed its testing of floating small video windows and now enables them by default.
Several improvements are also coming for those using more than one monitor. Plasma 6.9 will remember the size and position of windows separately for each different display layout. If you disconnect a second monitor and then reconnect it, the system will automatically restore the previous layout, and vice versa.
This placeholder currently only works for windows that remain open during the session. The corresponding feature for closed applications is still under development.
Application control and better security
In terms of security, users will be able to permanently block older applications from controlling the keyboard and mouse pointer. Through system settings, you will be able to see which programs have been blocked and undo the decision if necessary.

Notifications are also getting major changes. Firefox downloads that appear as system notifications can now be paused and resumed directly from there. The browser's connection extension also gains support for Brave.
Smaller improvements in everyday use
In the system monitor application, when you select multiple processes by holding down a multi-select key, the lists temporarily stop reordering so that items don't move while you select them.
Finally, Plasma 6.9 brings clearer wording for deleting saved Wi-Fi networks, more accurate previews when switching windows, as well as improved power management on the login screen so that displays turn off when left inactive.
