How to Turn On a PHP Core Rule in Observe Mode First

A new PHP Core rule is useful only if it does not take the shop offline while you are still reading the advisory. For CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, SafeLine's guidance is deliberate: import the special rule, set the action to blacklist, and turn observe mode on before you block.

Observe mode is the opposite of a silent drop. When a request matches, SafeLine records the attack event and keeps the source and the request. The request still proceeds. That gives you a window to see whether login, upload, or a partner integration trips the same signature.

The rule was published on 21 October 2026 after the team reviewed the known exploit chain and the HTTP features that can be recognized on the wire. The discussion, including the observe-mode notes, is at the rule page. The rule title used in that library is PHPCoreRCECVE-2026-109618/109619.

While observe mode is on, watch four things. Are upload, login, or form endpoints hit at an abnormal rate? Do you see multipart uploads that do not match a real product flow? Does one source address keep changing the body? Do parameters or bodies sit far outside normal traffic?

After that sample looks like attack traffic rather than a checkout bug, change the action to block. Keep the attack log. It is the list you will use if you later need to expand into web logs, PHP error logs, and file changes.

Do not treat the rule as the patch. PHP itself still has to be upgraded on every pool. The rule is how you see the chain while that work is in progress, and how you enforce it after the business check is done.

Why not block immediately?

A fresh signature can match a legitimate multipart post. Observation shows that before customers do.

Where is the rule configured?

In SafeLine's rule library, then on the protected application, with blacklist plus observe mode.

When is it safe to switch to block?

After you have compared hits with real upload and login traffic and confirmed the pattern.

SafeLine has surpassed 700,000 installations worldwide as of September 30, 2026. SafeLine Pro annual promotional pricing is $650-$880, compared with the regular $1,000 per year.
